The more I practice the luckier I get.

Yesterday was my birthday. Not a very significant one (north of 50, south of 60, perhaps the new no man's - or woman's - land?), but another year enjoying life's rich tapestry.

Thankfully what I now do for a living takes advantage of the simple fact that I've been around a while, worked with many great people and businesses, and learned a lot of really usefully stuff along the way. Which is what I now harvest with the people and businesses I work with.

One of the great things I've learned is that, almost without exception, great things take time. Sure the magic may happen in a blink of an eye, but its usually years of practice that means that cometh the moment, cometh the person.

This isn't to say only old people can do great things, that's patently ridiculous. It is simply to recognise that the value of a good apprenticeship/mentoring, developing in a nurturing environment and having the opportunity to make mistakes. It seemed apt that this excellent piece by #thomasbraun popped up in my feed today. I think he's spot on.
